
The Business of Sports and Entertainment: A contemporary and Historical Perspective
This course will explore the economic, financial, and societal impact on American society as well as on societies
and civilizations across the world, currently and throughout history.
Students will focus on the role of entertainment and sports in contemporary society. Also examined will be the impact
of these fields as an industry on the individual and society. To that end the financial ramifications of these interrelated
industries not only on American society but as a major export product, will be explored. Furthermore the historical origins
and evolution (from the days of ancient Greece, Rome, Medieval Europe, Asian societies, etc.) of entertainment and athletics
as tools of the powerful and those in leadership positions to satiate, control and appease the masses will be analyzed.
In addition this course will also explore the role of women in the sports and entertainment arena in contemporary times
and historically. Finally the study will survey the legal aspects that regulate and attract the entertainment and sports field.
